Every once in a while an album comes along that changes your perception of music. While listening to the hype machine radio show the other day, I was introduced to Netsky, a producer/dj from Belgium. I was instantly hooked and after several listens to his Plan B remix, I decided to go for it and just buy his album. It's been a while since I have heard drum & bass that was as exciting to me as this was, and I haven't stopped listening for two days now. Peep game and enjoy this video for his song Iron Heart.

San Francisco

I recently got back from a nice little vacation up in San Francisco. My great friends Eric and Ariel (hi guys!) are having a baby in a few weeks and gave me the extreme pleasure of doing some paintings for their baby girl's nursery. It was a rad labor day weekend and I got a bunch of paintings banged out. Thanks for all the hospitality, fun and mischief...oh and the FOOD! Being that Bloc Party is one of my favorite bands ever (I seriously listen to them too much), the release of lead singer Kele Okereke's solo album had peaked my interest from the initial leak of the single "Tenderoni". After a few listens to the single I was a bit skeptical though, and thought I might be in for a huge departure from what I really loved about Bloc Party and his amazing vocals. I got the album last night, (courtesy of Chris and Cheryl) and my first listen has me completely hooked. This album has seriously outweighed my expectations and made me even more of a fan. Check him out, and get THE BOXER.

My friend Eric and I were asked to be in another print exchange show at Signed & Numbered gallery in Salt Lake last month and were really stoked. We then commandeered the help of the lovely Ms. Cheryl Humphreys to help us produce this fun little tidbit of screeprinting majesty. The creative had no limitations other than being under 8.5 x 11 so we shot ideas around for a second and decided to make a playing card. We drew straws for who would get to work on the file first and then the following person would have to go from there. This was our end result. Always fun to work with the both of you.

I find it amazing how fast my weeks go by lately. Then I look at my phone and realize that I tend to document the most random moments of my week and see that it is not my life that is moving fast but just my mind hurrying to try and process every beautiful thing that I have experienced. Maybe the two will catch up with eachother one day and things will seem a little less chaotic, but for now I am quite ok with it.

Today I had my first real lunch break in a long time at work. I get to take them everyday now and Im really happy cause it means I get to be outside, ride my bike, and eat something new if the mood strikes me. This sandwich was good, my bike ride was great, and the 15 minutes I spent laying in the sun listening to music was the best thing to happen during my work day in years. Viva la lunch break!

Alex Pardee is Dope

I have to say that Alex Pardee's newest show was one of the most intriguing solo shows I have ever seen. The concept was really cool and the execution was even better. His line work is so impressive up close, and the psychedelic washes of color just draw you in from across the room I was stuck in the gallery for well over an hour reading the stories that went with each painting and doing double takes back to each one of them. I highly suggest checking this show out before its gone. Alex Pardee's "Hiding from the Normals" at Gallery 19988....go see it and be very creeped out.

Fever Ray was incredible! Definitely one of the most intense shows I have seen in a long time. Their stage presence was nearly overwhelming and they sounded amazing on top of it. Not too mention the insane lazer madness and the massive amounts of Nag Champa that they blasted through the room. If I wasnt a serious fan before, I definitely am now...f'ing incredible. The opening act, Nosaj Thing, was really dope too. If you dont know, now ya know.

Snowboard Design

So a month or two back I came across a snowboard design contest on core77. At the time the deadline was the same day as I found it, so I rushed home and banged out a quick look and sent it off. Come to find out that the contest extended its deadlines for nearly another 3 weeks or so, but oh well. Originally I had planned to just make a post about his incredible pattern work, but upon revisiting his site I noticed the BROOKS saddle that he designed. The packaging and the saddle are both really dope and the pattern is a hammered topogaphic map of l'Alpe d'Huez. I see a purchase in my future. Go and check out the rest of his work here. As out of the graff game as I have become in the past couple years because of work, I still keep my eyes on whats goin on. It is still very much a part of my everyday life, even though I haven't painted in a while, as a designer I constantly approach typography from the perspective of a writer. The following are some great examples of the fine mixture of great typography and graffiti...with a sense of humor to boot. At least one of these is ESPO (youre worthless but im worth less), not sure about the rest but whoever you are, you are rad. All pics were snagged from 12oz. Word.
